Musical, arts, books | capital.squire | I advertised two wooden cases of a given size and weight with a post code and address to be shipped abroad. Initially Darren (of DTL Freight LTD)was communicative - though only by email oddly enough. A month or more before pick up, the length of the cases was increased by 20cm (I did not have the cases until this point so gave close, but not exact measurements) and I was told that that would be fine after I offered to pay any increase that may cause. Payment was made in late August for a late September / early October pick up. Closer to that date my phone calls were not answered... Still. Eventually emails were answered with no information regarding the shipping process or any advise offered for further steps (documents for the shipping required, insurance details that had originally been agreed for the shipment etc'). A rather terse response was what I received, by email, and Darren Thomas continued to ignore my phone calls and requests to talk. When the day eventually came for collection - a lorry was sent that could not enter my village street. The next day the same exact thing occured! I was advised by the third party couriers that Darren had hired to pick my cases up (unbeknownst to me - I assumed he had his own transport) that they only had one van that could make the pick up which had no mechanical lifts and so would require additional manpower instead. After many, many un answered calls and emails, Darren tells me I am to pay the sum of the shipment again (circa £200) because I changed the details of the pickup which has therefore caused all this trouble... I asked for my money back and for him to stop what he was failing to do - pick up (let alone deliver over seas) my boxes. I got Delivery Quote Compare involved and they were very helpful and refunded me their fee of the job. I have yet to see a penny from Darren Thomas. During my subsequently very stressful move abroad, Darren returned a number of emails to me and Delivery Quote Compare that would have certainly made for a half decent Fawlty Towers script, with a few minor alterations to his text, which was abusive towards me at times. I was told by the website that further behaviour of this sort would result in his removal from the list of companies on it. I have now completed my move and started my PhD, yet Mr Thomas has not yet managed to make one refund in the same time. I doubt I will ever see it. So in over two months and at the cost of over £200, this good gentleman has failed to pick up two boxes and repay me after being abusive via email. The Basil Fawlty of the freight forwarding world.
