Antwerp Port, the second largest in Europe, has reported a 1.8% drop in volume handled this year. Handling over 183 million tonnes of freight in 2012, thought to be an indication of the economic state. 2011’s figures came in at 187 million tonnes, but the Port was impacted by the temporary closure of Belgian Refining Company which affected their liquid bulk figures as a result. However, the Port has attracted new customers this year, including Brown McFarlane, Erdemir and Mechel, helping to solidify its position as the largest steel port in Europe.
